Die Kleingruppe „Earth Resistance“ ging in der Nacht vom 26ten auf den 27ten im Tagebau Garzweiler, um einen Bagger zu blockieren und ein Banner aufzuhängen. Die Gruppe splittete sich in zwei Teile auf. Während die eine Hälfte am frühen Morgen den Wachschutz und die Polizei ablenkte (und entkam!), gelang es 11 Menschen auf den Bagger zu klettern und dort ein 90m² Banner aufzuhängen.
Mit diesem sollte gezeigt werden, wie der Tagebau von wachsendem Wald und sich Platz nehmenden Tieren gefüllt wird. Sie haben den Bagger für zwei Stunden blockiert bevor die Polizei sie in Gewahrsam genommen hat. Die Aktivist*innen wollten die Verbindung zwischen Klimagerechtigkeit und Tierrechten zeigen: Tiere haben das gleiche Recht auf diesem Planeten zu leben wie wir, und sie sind genauso vom Klimawandel, der Verschmutzung durch Kohleraubbau und der Vertreibung aus ihrem Lebensraum betroffen, wenn die Kohleindustrie ihr Territorium vergrößert.
Declaration of action: blockade of digging machine in Garzweiler for climate justice and animal rights
The affinitary group Earth Resistance went to Garzweiler coal mine during the night from Saturday 26th to Sunday 27th of August in order to block one machine and hang a banner. The group split in two and, while one half distracted (and escaped from!) the security guards and the police in the early morning, the other 11 managed to get to the digging machine and hang the 90m² painting representing the coal mine being overwhelmed with a growing forest and animals coming to take place back. They blocked the machine for 2 hours, until the police took them to custody. The activists wanted to highlight the connection existing between the climate justice and animal rights: animal has the same right to live on this planet as we do, and they also are affected by climate change, pollution due to coal exploitation and of being deprived of their habitats while the coal industry enlarge its territory.
